The story in short
Rao Jodha founded Jodhpur in 1459 on the edge of the Thar, and Marwar's traders grew rich moving opium, sandalwood and dates along the desert routes. The old town was painted indigo — for caste, for cool, for keeping insects away — and from the fort ramparts that blue sea is still the finest view in Rajasthan.
